Lash or Brow Serum Not Working Like It Used To? This May Be Why

It can happen with any beauty product: The formula you loved for so long seems to stop working as well. Does this mean your body got “used to” your old favorite, or the formula suddenly changed? Not always.

If you’ve been using RevitaLash® Advanced or RevitaBrow® Advanced products long-term and you’ve noticed that you’re not as thrilled with the results as you once were, there are some reasons why that may be.

When you’re investing money into results-driven products, it’s natural to wonder: “Why aren’t my lashes and brows looking the way they once did?” In this post, we’ll break down some possible reasons why your results today may be different than in the past. We’ll also explore what you can do to get back to the luxurious, healthy-looking lashes and brows that you’ve fallen in love with.

Lash or Brow Cycle Timing

Your lashes and brows grow in a natural cycle of growth (anagen), transition (catagen), and rest/shedding (telogen). This varying cycle can affect the way your lashes and brows look, even if you’re using RevitaLash® Advanced or RevitaBrow® Advanced consistently.

At any given time, each individual lash or brow hair is in a different point of this cycle. The state of these hairs can result in what looks like a good lash or brow day versus a not so good one. Typically, the full life of the lash cycle is around 6 weeks, while the brow cycle can last up to 4 months.

What to Do:
Stay the course. Even during resting or shedding phases, your serum is nourishing your lashes and brows to support the new, healthy hair that is growing in once the next cycle begins.

Skipping an Application… Or Two… Or Three

When using lash and brow serums, consistency is key. That said, we get it: On busy days, self-care routines are often the first thing to drop off a tight schedule.

The good news? You can apply RevitaLash® Advanced or RevitaBrow® Advanced either morning or night. So if you’re the type to nod off while catching up on your favorite shows before bedtime (we’re guilty, too!), shift your lash and brow routine to the morning instead.

What to Do:
We recommend continuing to apply your lash serum once a day, every single day to your clean, dry eyelashes above the lash line. The same goes for your brow serum: just a few short strokes on clean, dry brow hair once daily is all you need.

Using Expired Product

All cosmetic products have a shelf life…and it’s particularly important to keep tabs on expiration timeframes for products you use around your eyes.

RevitaLash® Advanced and RevitaBrow® Advanced serums are designed to be used within their shelf life: 12 months after opening. If it’s been longer than that since you opened your tube, we don’t recommend continuing to use that product.

Think of this as another good reason to apply your serums daily. With everyday use, you’ll be sure to finish your tube before its shelf life is up.

What to Do:
You can check the expiration date by looking at the lot number on the bottom of the tube. Visit our FAQ page to look up the product’s expiration date. Throw away any opened product older than 12 months.

Interference from Oil-Based Products

Oil-based cleansers, eye creams, serums, and moisturizers can potentially create a barrier that could prevent your lash or brow serum from absorbing into the hairs.

What to Do:
We recommend starting your routine with an oil-free, gentle cleanser. Ensure that your eye area is completely clean and dry before applying RevitaLash® Advanced or RevitaBrow® Advanced.

Our Micellar Water Lash Wash is the perfect partner for lash and brow serums. Its oil-free formula is designed to help you see optimal results: gorgeous, healthy, and hydrated lashes and brows.

Perception Change

RevitaLash® Advanced and RevitaBrow® Advanced are cosmetic products. It’s not scientifically confirmed that the body “gets used to” lash and brow serums, but some users feel like they’ve plateaued in results after long-term use of any cosmetic product.

When you start new products, the results are dramatic and thrilling. But when you look at yourself daily, you can begin to see these results become normalized. It’s common to scrutinize any small changes that could be due other factors.

What to Do:
While we would still recommend staying the course, you may find it refreshing to consider taking a short break (2-3 weeks) from your lash and brow serum. After your break, resume daily use.

For lashes, you can also try switching to one of our other two formulas. Each of our lash serums (RevitaLash® Advanced, RevitaLash® Advanced Sensitive, and RevitaLash® Advanced Pro) are comprehensive formulas with varying ingredients and technologies, all with the same intended cosmetic outcome of gorgeous and healthy lashes.

Health and Lifestyle Factors

Just like your skin and the hair on your head, your lashes & brows reflect your overall health and well-being. Factors like stress, hormonal fluctuations, medications, or diet can all affect lash & brow health.

Additionally, certain makeup formulas can be drying, or the removal process can be damaging. Lash enhancing services like lash lifts and brow enhancing services like brow laminations that chemically process the hair can sometimes result in over processing and damage, too.

What to Do:
Fuel your body with a balanced diet, hydration, and rest. If you suspect a health-related cause, consult with your medical professional.

Use lash- and brow-friendly makeup with nourishing ingredients and avoid waterproof makeup. Don’t ever pull or tug at lashes or brows during your makeup application or removal routine.

If you sleep with your face on a pillow, try a different position that doesn’t cause friction to your lashes and brows. Or try an eyelash protecting sleep mask or silk pillowcase to minimize damage. If you need to reverse and repair damage, you can use our nutrient-dense Lash & Brow Masque as part of your weekly routine, applying it twice weekly for optimal results.

Best Practices to Seeing Your Best Lashes & Brows

Now that you’ve identified any possible barriers, it’s time to learn how to make the most of your lash and brow serums for your best-ever results:

  • Use RevitaLash® Advanced and/or RevitaBrow® Advanced once daily. Every day!
  • If your results have plateaued, you may consider taking a brief break (2-3 weeks) and then resuming consistent use.
  • Thoroughly cleanse your eye area with Micellar Water Lash Wash and let dry completely before each application.
  • Only buy from authorized resellers and be aware of when you opened the product and potential of expiration.
  • Don’t forget, less is more! One swipe per side is all you need.
  • Avoid applying to lower lashes or applying multiple times a day. Oversaturation may result in redness or irritation.
  • Be gentle! Your overall eye area is so delicate and calls for extra TLC.
